Reserve Police Officer
Type: Volunteer
Salary/Pay Rate: Volunteer Basis
Posted Date: 4/7/2009

The Reserve Peace Officer Program accepts candidates from all walks of life. Most Reserve Officers will currently have satisfying civilian positions and simply wish to do police work as a way of serving their community. A Reserve Officer may or may not be interested in becoming a full-time Peace Officer. The Reserve Officer Program also gives currently certified officers who are retired the ability to continue contributing to their community.

Position Summary:
Reserve Peace Officers perform all of the duties and functions of a full-time Police Officer by repressing crime through visible uniformed patrol, enforcing traffic laws and conducting traffic collision investigations, answering calls for service, arresting or citing law violators, preparing reports, and conducting surveillance. They will also be conducting criminal investigations, preserving evidence, testifying in court, providing crowd control at public gatherings, conducting searches for missing persons, responding to animal control calls for service and enforcing animal control laws, providing miscellaneous field services such as aiding lost persons, caring for found property and reporting hazards, and performing other duties as needed and directed by supervisors. Reserve Peace Officers perform special assignments as needed, including jail transports.

Initial training is provided as required by AZPOST, unless a waiver is appropriate based on prior training and experience. Additional training is provided by Prescott Valley Police Department.

Qualifications:
Successful candidates must pass a written test, a background investigation, an oral interview, a physical agility test, and a polygraph examination related to past conduct. Candidates who successfully complete all phases of this testing process will then be sponsored by AZPOST through the Northern Arizona Training Academy (unless a waiver is appropriate based on past training and experience). Successful candidates must possess a valid Arizona driver’s license.

A Town employment application form must be completed in its entirety, signed, and submitted.
